For the first time in the history of the SLA, the opening day game was forfeited by the Chicago Stoops! Reports say that Mary, aka 'Chicago Red' is still negotiating a new contract and would not play under the old agreement. The Detroit Risers in their creamy home whites with the old English D, not wanting to let the fans down, called the Tom Emanski Stoopball Trainees franchise and asked them to fill in for the Stoops. Most graciously they accepted, and the day was saved. It was an overflowing crowd again this year, and with the high in the low 60's and a strong sou'wester blowing up from the gulf, the ball was jumping off the stoop. It was great to get back to the old game!!!
Opening ceremonies went off without a hitch thanks to Sandy and Patrick and the girls, and Chris and Steve. Janice kept every busy and served up the Hot Cross Buns as Mass was letting out. The concessions started out a little slow but picked up considerably!
Just so you folks know we are getting low on 25th Anniversary Coins and SLA Coffee mugs, so you may want to get your orders in now!
Finally a big shout out to Jebus......literally hours after THE RESURECTION, he showed up to throw out the first pitch. We can always count on him! Now onto a little kielbasa and ham sammich!!!!!
